I have always been deeply inspired by and fascinated with the human form, the interactions among people as they go about their daily lives. I am moved by the lighting on a subject, an interesting shape or design, its color or form. I work representationally, making my marks on the canvas in relation to what I see but as my emotions guide me, I will sometimes disrupt the perceptual by moving the painting around, and upside down, discovering other forms and shapes within. I work mostly in oil but have recently been experimenting with acrylics and love the immediacy and freedom they allow. Each painting becomes a journey to reveal and uncover the information Iām observing and with that struggle, painting becomes a deeply personal and emotional experience.
